Maps are useful when we're lost and need direction. Just like
we consult maps for navigating through space, our Vedic astrology
chart is a map for navigating through time. The great sage
Varahamihira wrote over 1500 years ago, "There is
no better boat than a horoscope to help a man cross over the
troubled sea of life." Sometimes we get so blown
off course that we don't remember who we are and what our
purpose is. It's times like these that there's nothing more
valuable than perspective, which the astrology chart provides.
An astrology chart is a snapshot of the moment of birth. That
moment is so powerful that our whole lives can be explained
from it. Our charts reveal the intricacies of our karma, our
soul's journey through time, and the multi-faceted purpose
of our incarnation. Those that associate astrology with fanciful
superstition and fortune telling are missing the sacredness
of astrology. Why sacred? Because the moment of birth reveals
the great mysterious workings of the Divine, and when we consult
the astrology chart we commune with the divine mind of God.
To return to our charts, to that moment of birth, is like
a meditation practice where we return to our breath, to the
core of our being, to our souls. K.N. Rao writes in Astrology
and Karma:
"Astrology was meant to become a spiritual discipline,
the finest method of developing dharana or one pointed concentration
leading to deepest meditation."
