In the year 1984 I showed in some articles the use of different
conditional dashas of Parashara, which are nakshatra dashas,
and demonstrated their great significance and use. Maharishi
Parashara has given some of them in his magnum opus, Brihat
Parashara Hora Shastra. There are said to be as many
as fifty four such dashas out of which only twelve are available
to us. Out of these the primary, according to the importance
given by Parashara are Vimshottari, Kala Chakra, Jaimini's
Chara dasha and Shodashottari dasha.
Used with Vimshottari dasha, which is a general dasha and
Chara dasha, also a general dasha, a conditional dasha throws
light into an area of a horoscope which an astrologer's attention
may not be drawn easily. Let this be illustrated through a
horoscope, which is that of Bill Clinton, the former president
of the USA.
In the year 1998 when Clinton was a facing a crisis in his
career with the Monica Lewinsky scandal threatening to ruin
him totally, he was passing through the Vimshottari dasha
of Jupiter-Venus which does explain this terrible event but
still some clarity will be needed to pin point it. But in
the Shodashottari dasha it was the mahadasha of Mars, the
8th lord of scandals, and the antardasha of the Moon in the
8th house of scandals.

Clinton's Natal Chart
I have written in a book of mine that once when an old
astrologer had come, some of us had met with him to discuss
astrology with him. He said that he had almost given up astrology
and was devoting more time to his spiritual practices. We
were discussing the horoscope of Raja Dinesh Singh to which
Shodashottari dasha was applicable.
Out of irritation, the classically trained astrologer asked
us why we had not used Shodashottari dasha in this case. I
put before him my calculated sheet showing how this dasha
worked in this case. He was very happy that I had done that
and used some strong words against some modern astrologers
who neither knew astrology properly, nor knew the importance
of the conditional dashas of Parashara.
The Conditions Required for Shodashottari Dasha

Shodashottari is a special udu dasha based on the Nakshatra
occupied by the Moon at the time of birth. This dasha is only
applicable to the horoscopes fulfilling certain conditions.
The conditions are:
Odd Rising Sign (Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius,
Aquarius):
1. The ascendant degrees are between 0 to 15 and
the Moon is waxing (Shukla Paksha).
2. The ascendant degrees are between 15 to 30 and the Moon
is waning (Krishna Paksha).
Even Rising Sign (Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn,
Pisces):
1. The ascendant degrees are between 0 to 15 and the Moon
is waning (Krishna Paksha).
2. The ascendant degrees are between 15 to 30 and the Moon
is waxing (Shukla Paksha).
