 Happy New Year 2004!
Happy New Year friends,
This is the time of the year that we all collectively agree that we get to have a fresh start and a clean slate. But if you think about it, every moment is fresh and gives us the same opportunity if we choose to take it.

Tonight as I walked outside I was amazed by how bright Venus was in the Western horizon just after sunset. I climbed up 30 feet to what we call the "crow's nest" platform at the top of our windmill to be able to get a 360 degree view and see the full Moon and Venus at once!

My fiancee Eleykaa even climbed up which amazed me because she's very scared of heights. The adventure of the moment seized her and she became willing to faced her fears.

I thought that that was a good metaphor for the New Year. To be willing to stretch ourselves, face our fears, experience new adventures, and move closer to what we want to see and create in our lives. I know the reward was totally worth it for her. It was a glorious sight that we got to share together.

I wish you many beautiful moments in 2004 and the fulfillment of moving closer to what you want to create in your life!

This issue contains an article about the largest astrology school in the world in New Delhi India, and a new section called Star Gazers Corner with a listing of key times of the month for viewing the planets. We also have more favorite quotes (back by popular demand), as well as our regular monthly graphical ephemeris. Enjoy!

The Largest Astrology School in the World
In the spring of 2000 I had the great privilege of spending a month in New Delhi, India studying at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, the largest astrology school in the world. Today there are over 850 students and 26 teachers! For me, it was like an International Symposium on Vedic Astrology every weekend. I was thrilled.

My astrology teacher, Sri K.N. Rao, whom I met in the US in 1993, had started the school in 1987 in order to provide a means for students to learn astrology through a systematic and scientific approach based in modern research. Now the school produces a quarterly magazine distributed worldwide and has published over 40 books based on their research findings. It's a very exciting place to visit that I'd recommend to anyone.

It's interesting that in 1980 a great yogi, Yogi Moorkhanandji, had predicted to K.N. Rao that there would soon be a renaissance in Vedic astrology and that he would be instrumental in making it happen. This seemed rather unlikely at the time, as Rao was working full time at a government job and only able to devote evenings and weekends to astrology. Within a few years, however, Rao opened his school in New Delhi and today the school has become highly successful, attracting more and more students all the time.

Here's some special times to enjoy viewing the sky. Keep looking up!:

Venus can be seen after Sunset low in the Western horizon this month and is by far the first and brightest "star" that appears.

Jupiter appears on the Eastern horizon about 10pm this month while it's retrograde in Leo.
