Are Our Lives Fated?
Namaste friends,
I often hear a client say something to me before a reading like "don't tell me anything bad!" It's said tongue and cheek but I can tell that underneath they have serious concerns. This has given me the impression that a majority of people have the belief that their charts are set in stone.

Here's my view on fate vs. free will: Our charts reveal liklihoods not inevitabilities. It may be a strong liklihood that appears as fate but any negative situation can shift. There's no purpose to astrology if we can't positively effect our destiny. It's because we have choices that astrology get's interesting and useful. I'd have no interest in astrology if it were otherwise.

If you're not empowered by an astrology reading then there's something wrong. Most likely the astrologer has spoken in absolute, fatalistic terms and "played God." This is why my astrology teacher, K.N. Rao, often says "astrologers are a menace to society!!" Astrology is not the menace. It's a tool for awareness. It helps us make smart, informed decisions and navigate our destiny.

Vedic Remedies: The Power of Mantra
While I was on a trip to California last month I had lunch with one of my favorite Vedic astrologers, Marc Boney. Marc's a senior student of K.N. Rao and has taught Vedic astrology for the Deepak Chopra Institute. Marc has worked with mantras with his clients and has had some phenomenal results. He shared with me an article he written about the use of mantras for healing. Here's are some excerpts:

What is a Mantra?
The Sanskrit word mantra is composed of the two root words, manas, which means, "mind," and "trai," which means, "to heal or protect." Mantras can therefore best be defined as "primordial sounds that have a healing or beneficial effect on the mind and consciousness."

Probably the simplest way to relate to the idea of mantra having a profound effect on a person is to think of something with which we are all very familiar-music. We are also familiar with how different pieces of music can affect and sometimes profoundly move us in different ways, making us feel happy, sad, aroused, sedated, mellow, agitated or a hundred other ways.

Every sound, every vibration, represents a certain kind of energy. By saturating the mind in particular sounds over an extended period of time, the "energy value" of the sounds profoundly effect and can even transform the energy pattern of our subtle bodies.

Bush In Decline - The Amazing Success of "Fahrenheit 911"
Several people have asked me my astrological opinion about who's going to win the US election in November.

While interpreting a horoscope it's important to not only look at the time period in question - in this case November - but also the months before and after. For Bush the months before the election, partically June and July, are so bad that I don't think he'll be able to pull himself out of it. Bush continues to be under significant attack by the media while Saturn transits through Gemini and over his natal Sun in the 12th house of loss. This is also the 10th house of career from the Moon. Bush's authority and status (Sun) is under serious attack and scrutiny (Saturn). The negative impact of this transit of Saturn is vastly more pronounced because Bush is in Saturn-Jupiter-Saturn period. The momentum of this period will certainly be carried into November even though Saturn's transit will begin to move away from the Sun and he'll begin a slightly better pratyantar period of Mercury July 29. He'll stay in Jupiter - Saturn - Mercury through the elections. More about this later.

The nearly lethal blow to the Bush administration has been dealt by one man - Michael Moore who's documentary movie "Fahrenheit 911" has broken box office records in the first week of showing. The movie is a must see if you want to be exposed to the facts about Bush behind the facade. But be prepared to have your world shaken - corruption is not pretty and neither is war.

I think the biggest blow to Bush, as a result of the movie, is that the American people have lost trust in him. And trust is a very difficult thing to rebuild once it's lost. That's what difficult Saturn periods can do - ruin your reputation.

Meanwhile, John Kerry and newly announced running mate, John Edwards, gather steam.

Breaking News: Spacecraft Enters Saturn Orbit
July 01, 2004
PASADENA, Calif. - Hours after settling into orbit around Saturn, the international Cassini spacecraft on Thursday sent back unprecedented glimpses of the planet's rings, revealing patterned waves that looked like ripples in a pond.

The pictures, which imaging team leader Carolyn Porco called "absolutely mind-blowing," capped a dramatic night for the mission's U.S.-European team.

Scientists and engineers breathed a sigh of relief late Wednesday at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory as a signal indicated first that Cassini - launched nearly seven years ago - safely passed through the ring plane and then performed a crucial engine firing. It squeezed through a gap in Saturn's shimmering rings, fired its brakes and settled into a near-perfect orbit around the giant planet.

"I can tell you it feels awfully good to be in orbit around the lord of the rings," said Charles Elachi, JPL's director.
