Timing of Death with Nirayana Shoola Dasa

Post by Shrikanth » Mon Aug 18, 2014 5:16 am

Dear All,

This article is primarily for students of astrology that are interested in understanding timing of death. There are many different techniques available from various sources to ascertain this. This technique can and should be used in conjunction with other traditional techniques in Ascertaining longevity, manner of death and also understanding of Maraka planets.

In the light of recent death of Robin Williams - I spent some time understanding his death more closely. Here I have analyzed 4 charts and discussed how the Nirayana Shoola Dasa is applicable in these deaths. These charts details are from Astrodatabank (AA quality)

Nirayana Shoola Dasa - (Excerpts from the Vedic Astrology: An Integrated Approach - by PVR Narasimha Rao)
Computation
Find the stronger of the 2nd and 8th houses. Start from the rasi containing that house.
If the rasi is odd, go in the forward (zodiacal) direction and cover the 12 rasis. If the rasi is even, go in the backward (anti-zodiacal) direction and cover the 12 rasis. Dasas of movable, fixed and dual rasis have 7, 8 and 9 years respectively.

Intepretation
Dasa of strong maraka rasis and dasas of rasis containing strong maraka grahas can bring death. Usually death occurs in the dasa of a Trishoola rasi. There are three Trishoola rasis and we can identify the correct rasi based on the longevity category (short, middle or long life).

If Trishoolas don’t bring death, the Rasi containing Rudra in the 12th house can bring death.
Antardasa at the time of death can be the 6th, 7th, 8th or 12th rasi from dasa rasi.
It can also be a rasi that aspects the rasi that, in navamsa, contains the owner of the 8th house from dasa rasi.

For example Suppose dasa rasi at death is Ta and Jupiter is in Le in navamsa.
Then the antardasas of the 6th , 7th, 8th and 12th houses from Ta ie., Li, Sc, Sg and Ar) can bring death.
Also the antardasas of Ar, Le, Li and Cp – rasis that aspect Le, which contains Jupiter in navamsa – can bring death.
If there is a common rasi between these two principles, it can be a strong candidate.

JHORA - provides the Rudra for each chart. Go to Key Info tab. Right click on the top pane and select Brahma, Rudra and Maheshwara - menu item. Nirayana Shoola Dasa is under the Rasi Dasas tab.

Robin Williams - Jul 21, 1951; 13:34pm; Chicago, Illinois. (6hr west of GMT)
A energetic and manic performer, entertainer, comedian committed suicide on Aug 11,2014.
RW.JPG
His Rudra is Venus in close conjunction afflicted with malefic Ketu.

At the time of his death - He was running NSD Virgo/Pisces.
Virgo Rasi dasa puts the afflicted Rudra in the 12th house.
Pisces is the 7th house from Dasa Rasi.
8th house from Virgo is Aries (lorded by Mars) and Mars is placed in Pisces with debilitated Merc and Rahu.
This makes Pisces a strong candidate for causing death.
The above perfectly aligns verbatim interpretation of NSD.

John Belushi - Jan 25, 1949; 05:12a; Chicago, Illinois (6h west of GMT)
An American actor, comedian - who died of a drug overdose on Mar 5, 1982 at the young age of 33.
JB.JPG
His Rudra is Saturn.

At the time of his death - He was running NSD - Virgo/Aquarius
Virgo Rasi puts Rudra in the 12th house.
Aquarius is the 6th house from the Dasa Rasi.
8th house from Virgo is Aries (lorded by Mars) and Mars is placed in Cancer debilitated with Saturn and aspected by Rahu. Aquarius aspects Cancer.
This makes Aquarius a strong candidate for causing death.

Chris Farley - Feb 15, 1964; 15:34:00pm Madison, Wisconsin, USA
American comedian who died binging on booze, cocaine and heroin 12/18/1997 in his Chicago condo.
CF.JPG
His Rudra is Rahu.

At the time of his death - He was running NSD - Gemini/Taurus.
Gemini is a Trishoola Rasi - one of the trinal Rasi containing the Rudra.
Taurus is the 12th Rasi from Dasa Rasi and so can cause death in his period.
8th house from Gemini is Capricorn lorded by Saturn. In Navamsa Saturn is placed in Libra afflicted with Sun and Mars.
Taurus aspects Libra and so Taurus now becomes a prime candidate for causing death.

Adolf Hitler - Apr 20, 1889; 18:30pm;Braunau, Austria
Died on Apr 30, 1945 by a self inflicted gunshot wound.
AH.JPG
His Rudra is Mars.

At the time of his death - He was running NSD - Aries/Aries.
Aries is a Trishoola Rasi containing Mars.
8th house from Aries is Scorpio - lorded by Ketu and Mars. Mars is with more planets and so using Mars.
Mars is in Scorpio Navamsa and Aries aspects Scorpio.
Thus Aries becomes a strong candidate to give death.

Mental Health
One common feature in these charts is that all these individuals had challenges in maintaining their mental equanimity and were struggling with either depression, had drug/alcohol abuse or very heavily dependent on medications to carry out their normal routines. Astrologically speaking all these charts the lagna lord is closely conjoined with the 11th lord or afflicted by malefic associations in the 11th house.

It is giving clues to understanding our inborn weaknesses from the 11th house - which in turn is the 6th house from the 6th - manifestation of our susceptibilities.

There are many such examples of untimely death and analysis on these lines using very simple techniques and the use of JHORA will help us understand this much better.

Hope this helps the students in understanding this subject much better.

In Jhora, dasa sequence of Nirayana shoola dasa is not properly working sometimes. For ex: One native born in Gemini Asc with strong second house (Cancer), dasa sequence should be anti clock wise starting from Cancer, Gemini, Ta, Ar, Pi, Aq..........
But it works other way, But for some other natives with gemini ascendant with strong second house works properly.

Additionally following link explains why to start from strong of 2nd house or 8th house,
Because the 2nd and 8th rasis in the natural zodiac are owned by Mars and Venus, rasi aspect on either of them by Moon generates Rudra yoga and rasis aspected by Rudra yoga planets can give death.

if 3rd house and 8th house represents longevity and hence 12th from those two houses are maraka houses (2nd and 7th), But why to start from 2nd or 8th instead of 2nd or 7th is not clear.

Generally excluding certain conditions like balarista etc, each planet is capable of giving certain ayush to native, but this dasa focuses more only on Rudra and maraka alone. And certain good yogas (panch mahpurush yogas) etc, denote purnayu and ayush of 70 year etc, Does this dasa over rule all such conditions?

Dear AstroVatu,

It goes without saying that before we do anything in astrology the longevity is the first to be assessed.

A dasa system doesn't function independent of other conditions in the chart.

It provides a framework of timing of an event as it relates to planets/Signs signifying that event.

Meaning in this case NSD would tie-in with the Rudra or strong maraka grahas and the dasa of the underlying Rasi would indicate great suffering or death like situations to these natives.

It is my understanding that usually a Dasa sheds light on one particular aspect of our life strongly and so knowledge of multiple of them would be highly useful for a detailed and expansive view in the chart.

Dear Shrikantji,

Thank you for your insight, agreed completely.

As per the rules mentioned to calculate dasa sequence, once starting dasa is identified stronger of 2nd and 8th, if it is a odd sign, sequence is clockwise and even sign, then it is anti-clockwise, but JHora doesn't work in accordance, is there any exceptions to this rule?

Ex: Mahatma Gandhi,
Date: October 2, 1869
Time: 7:20:00
Time Zone: 4:39:16 (East of GMT)
Place: 69 E 49' 00", 21 N 37' 00"

Rudra: Venus
2nd house Scorpio is strong,an even sign, so dasa sequence should be anti-clockwise, but sequence is sc-sg-cp
but rule exception is not mentioned anywhere. If exceptional rule is not applicable, it gives rise to further doubts about calculations of NSD in JHora, a) on what parameters software might have judged the strong house among 2nd and 8th b) How rudra planet is being identified etc.

With Regards,
AstroVatu
