Calculation difference : Parashara Light and Jagannatha Hora

Post by Virendra » Mon Apr 26, 2010 12:55 am

Gentlemen,

I've used Parashara Light 6.1 as well as Jagannatha Hora 7.32.
Both software use Lahiri ayanamsha (without any offset) by default.
However the results of calculation still come different.

For example - Transit of April 26, 2010 at 15:34:02 hrs IST for the same place is as follows
1. Parashara Light :-
Rahu/Ketu - 20:31 in Pisces/Gemini
2. Jagannath Hora :-
Rahu/Ketu - 21:31 in Pisces/Gemini

All other planets are at same place in calculation via both the software.
If you dig in further, because of the longitudinal difference, the navamsha chart positions of Rahu Ketu for such cases are different in both softwares.
Would appreciate any response for why the change is there or which is the correct degree ?
Thanks & Regards,
Virendra S Rathore

Hi,
The difference in position of Rahu ketu seems to be due to the setting of Mean and true position setting. In JG Hora software select preferences> planet calculations > and select True postions in both the options. Recalculate the chart and hopefully u should be getting the same charts as Parashar light.
Hope it helps.

That beats me .. I knew of True & Mean .. my bad, never thought Parashara Light would b using True by default (thought vedic astrology considers nodes as Mean always).
Thanks a lot for the help.

Dear Virendra,

Traditionally we've used Mean nodes as a standard for Rahu/Ketu - but if you look closer the latest JHORA 7.4
PVR Narasimhaji has switched that to True nodes. It was defaulted to Mean in previous JHORA versions.

You can still switch the default version to Mean Node - Preferences --> Related to Calculations --> Planet Calculation options.

Hope this helps
