Dear ket ji,

Thank you. The reason I laid emphasis on the ascendant because I have a couple of horoscopes born in the same year as hitler but with different ascendants, they led very normal lives. Of course, you are right- at the end of the day everything is in our hands no matter how bad the chart is. A chart is no excuse for wrongdoing.

Ket:
U wrote an interesting observation about ketu. Who else can write because ket+u=ketu :D .

Of all the planets Ketu pays attention only to Jupiter. If Ketu is somehow connected with Jupiter in the chart (connected, aspected by it or is under its signs – Sagittarius or Pisces), bad qualities of Ketu are suppressed, thus demonstrating a very good karma. But here, also, the extremes can come out – either it will give the quality of a great saint, or a great demon. For example, both charts of Hitler and Mother Teresa contain Ketu being associated with Jupiter.

Does it necessarily mean saintly qualities or makes the person a saint himself? Also what if they are conjunct in navamsa?

Hi Yermal,

Thanks for your post. It's very interesting what you have written. I don't know whether I saw the dreams during pitru poksha as I don't know how to know when it is that.

In south ,snake dreams usually are correlated with naaga dosha .Sometimes they advice to do abhisheka to Siva linga with snake.
I have seen it happening with people when the kundalini is rising also.
I had asked my daughter [whose was then around 7/8 years] to do a simple mediation for few minutes.Next day morning she tells me she had a dream in which she was sitting on a snake and riding it across the sea.I did not ask her to do the meditation again.
Some times pitrudosha also give snake dreams. If you started having this dream during pitru paksha or has increased during this period it is very significant. Narasimha jis website has the procedure for pitru tarpanam .

Pitru tarpanam is only for those who lost their parents. Pitru dosha is different and may increase during pitru paksha as you say but then for those who lost their parents, they could do pitru tarpanam, not for others.

Anyway my snake dreams never occurred during pitru paksha and also not during rahu period.

Dear Dev Ji,

I want some clarification on this.

What do you mean by "only for those who lost their parents" and "not for others".

In the web site of PVR the procedure starts with offering tarpana to all sages and devas etc and then to pitras and first mantra is, To beings who played the role of father in various lives to you and then to grand father and then to great grand father and so on.

What i understood by your post is, that, pitru tarpana is not for all ancestors. whereas, the word pitru tarpana itself indicates that it is tarpana for "pitras" (ancestors).

Please let me know, if I am wrong.

Hi Dev
Depending on the tradition people follow different practices. Some insist that it is only for people who have lost parents. Some insist that there is only one way and that is the right way.
Hi Yellow
Pitru paksha started on 30th sept and will end on 15th Oct.

Talib:

Actually, I dont know if different rules are followed. Pitru tarpanam of course refers to all pitrus but when a person has his father alive, he is not suppose to do that for other pitrus and it will be his father doing that. In fact even if a person loses his mother, he does not do amavasya tarpanam till such time that his father is alive. I hope this rule is followed in the south.
His father would be the closest of relatives and pitru and so he is not suppose to be doing that, further there are certain rules for those doing tarpans(amavasya) and such rules is to be followed only for those who lost their parents and for others in fact, they are to break the rules since it does not belong to them.
Anyway other replies are welcome, because what I know may not be practiced all over.

Dev

Dear Dev Ji,

Thanks for the reply.

I understand its just a different school of thought's.

I feel their should not be any restriction in following this procedure. say, if in a family father doesnt believe in this and son wants to do pitra tarpan. then, any such restriction will be a discouragement to him and he will hesitate to take initiative to do things for pitra's.

Hi
I had met a great astrologer from kerala, who had some siddhis and also is a saintly humble man.He had adviced me a few rituals one including pitru tarpana during amavasya. He had told me there is no other restriction need to be followed.
There are some like Swami Ramswarup who think tarpanam for departed souls should not be done at all,http://www.vedmandir.com/node/1449
"However, according to Vedas, we have to serve our parents and learned acharya, elders when they are alive. Tarpannam means when they are alive. Tarpannam means with full satisfaction (tript kar deina) and Shradh means concentration over truth with faith."
Sometimes in our country every few miles the language ,food and not surprisingly the religious practice change.
Everybody claim they are right and only their religion/path/saint has the only copyright to God.
Few years ago I was in Bangalore.I had a dream of my grandmother who had passed away[my mothers mother who had no brothers].I found it easier to go to a church a offered a mass in her name than to arrange tarpanam for her.
If there is a pitru loka and the prayers reach there is it going to differentiate like a human mind and ego that the prayers came from a temple, church or mosque, from a brahmin or untouchable.
I am sure the orthodox will tell it was a mistake/sin for a hindu to offer mass in the church.

Talib and yermal:

Actually it is not at all considered good to do tarpan when father is alive, since father becomes the first pitru, if he is alive, why are you doing it, even during amavasya tarpan, it is done to father, grandfather and great grandfather.
So everything starts from father. So if he is alive, he will do it and if you serve your father, that is a great thing you will be doing.

Of course, some ill treat their father, and after the latter's demise, they do tarpan regularly but it is said, one who does not do tarpan will incur heavy sins.
Even not knowing if the souls have reached Vaikunta or heaven, one has to do tarpan it says since it is his duty. Soul in Vaikunta may not need it but still it is his duty.

It is like a carodpathi has a son, who gets married and lives separately. Still it is his duty to send small amounts to his father as a mark of affection and respect.

There are many experts here who can add on to what I have said.

Basab,

I may have to agree with some views here. You wrote that you started seeing snakes in dreams after you started learning astrology. That is the reason for this. You might have read something bad about Rahu and Moon and you started having negative dreams.

Dev Ji,

everything (relations)starts either from "you" or your gothra, depending on how you count, forward or backward.

my point was reading about do's and donts may discourage someone who wants to take initiative rather than letting people acquire HEAVY SINS, thats all.

Alive people will also be pitras one day and as far as i have read living members also share karmas of anscectors.

shraadh has derived from shraddha and in the end its shraddha which matters.

I understand that there are proper procedures to be followed but, when there are different schools of thoughts and there is not proper guidance the "shraddha" becomes most important specially in "kaliyuga".

Aseem,

It is true that I got the dreams of snakes after I started learning astrology, but I saw other dreams also, which were different. So you can't say that I got affected by the Rahu-Moon thing. And read my signature line. You will know that I don't care one bit about the planets.

What other interesting dreams you got? Something like Rahu appearing as Mohini in your dreams?
If you want to make the planets miserable, instead of them making you miserable, smile back at them when they give you the most terrible suffering and say, "I don't care!!".
Should we give fake smile or genuine smile?

Aseem,

I told in the beginning only what dreams I saw, so I am not going into that again. No, I didn't see any dream of Mohini. I don't see girls in my dreams at all, though it is quite strange actually as with me running the period of Venus, which is in the nakshatra of 7th lord Mars in the 12th house of dreams, I should be seeing beautiful and attractive, women in my dream. With my 7th lord of wife in the 12th house of dreams, I wonder if I will get married to my dream girl.

It doesn't matter if the smile is fake or real, the 'I don't care!' attitude will be enough to make destiny fall on my feet and weep.

I was just curious and it was part of my research. Anyway thanks for clearing it up.

OMG- i did not know that by saying "I don't care" will make destiny fall on feet and weep. It may be a good remedy. :)

Well 12th house does represent dreams and Mars as 7th Lord in 12th house can also mean marrying your dream girl. But....

Yes, detachment is the best way to tackle with the planets. That's what spirituality preaches.

Don't create suspense, man. Just tell what you wanted to say when you stopped at 'but'... don't tell me now that it means I will see just dreams of marriage as 7th lord in the 12th house may also mean that.

Talib ji..
Allow me to add notes on Tharpanam ,who should do and who should not do.
Tharpanam is the offering of water mixed with Seasame seed(black) to the manes.(dead ancestors). If Tharpanam falls on Tuesdays or Fridays or any auspicious days than Black Sesame seed should also be mixed with Rice. Though we have several ancestors, this offering is addressed to three generations of father, grand father and great grand father along with their wives in our family and maternal grand father, his father and grand father along with their wives in our mothers birth family. Only those whose father is dead are eligible to do Tharpanam. If maternal grand father is alive Tharpanam should not be done for his family but restricted to our family.
The pithru loka is populated by three group of pithru devas viz, Vasu, Rudra and Adhithya. These devas receive our oblations and make it reach to our manes wherever they are and in whichever form they are. The pithru loka is supposed to be on the unseen side of the moon. This portion gets exposed to sun on the new moon days. These pithrus, since they have left the world are solely dependent on only their progeny to feed them. This feeding is done through Tharpanam.
There are several type of tharpanams: -
1.Gunda tharpanam- the tharpanam which is done in the first ten days of death.
2.Brahma yagna tharpanam-This is the oblation supposed to be done daily to the devas, rishis and pithrus.
3.Parheni tharpanam- this is the tharpanam which is supposed to be done on the next day after annual sraddha .Here the tharpanam is offered only to ones pithru varga (paternal side)
4 The regular tharpanam which is supposed to be done on all amavasyas.
Several acharyas have codified the method of tharpanam. Some of them are Apasthabha, Bodhayana, Drahyayana. In many families tharpanam is done without wearing Vibhuti or Namam but there are certain families who do tharpanam wearing these. Some people do avahanams of Pithrus on two koorchas. Some on one koorcha and some on spread durbhas..
There are several rules regarding tharpanam though many of them are not being followed by most of the people.. They are:-
1.On the day of Tharpanam, till tharpanam is completed we are not supposed to drink/eat anything.
2.On the day of tharpanam, the daily rituals like Sandhya vandhana have to be first performed. Then before tharpanam one more bath has to be taken.
3.Wet cloth should not be worn during tharpanam nor is it right to wear cloth which was washed a day before and dried. The cloth has to be made wet the same day and dried. Pure white silk cloth can also be worn, but wearing this silk cloth you should not have eaten any food. If wet cloth is not dry, it should be seven times shaken dry in wind before wearing it.
4.Except the tharpanam during eclipse all other tharpanams are to be done after 12 noon. Considering the difficulty, our law givers have agreed that it can be done after 8.30 AM.
5.As mentioned earlier nothing should be eaten or drunk before performance of Tharpanam.
6.Oblations should be done with hand full of water and not drops or spoon full of water.
7.The water should be poured out using the space between the thumb and the four fingers.
8.Every time a pinch of black Sesame seed has to be taken. Care should be taken not to take it using the thumb and the index finger.
9.Pithru tharpanam should always be done with poonal (Sacred Thread) hanging from the right shoulder to the left side of the body.
10.The pavithram for pithru tharpanam should be made out of three durbha and the koorcham should be made of 7 or 9 durbhas.
11.We should preferably sit on seat made of durbha(durbhasanam) while doing tharpanam and in its absence put few durbhas on the place we are going to sit,
12.Silver vessels are prescribed for used during tharpanam. If not available copper vessels can be used. Under no circumstance should steel or other metal vessels are to be used.
13.Tharpanam should be done facing east or south. It is believed that it either should be done in our homes or in public holy places like shore of the river, sea active you happen to do it in the place belonging to some one else. We are supposed to compensate the owner of the property.
14.If Amavasya and the first of the month in which tharpanam has to be performed comes on the same day, then tharpanam for the sankramanam(first of the month) should be done.
Those who have their father is alive, they can perform Brahma Tharpanam( Rishi Tharpanam) daily. The Pitru mantras has not to be done for those whose Father is alive.Trikala Sandhyavanthanam is important for them daily when they perform daily Rishi Tharpanam.
